Campaign Against Urban Sprawl in Essex: CAUSE

Updated: Oct 18, 2018

Today I met with some of the members of CAUSE, an activist group opposing new suburban sprawl in Essex, in particular the 'West Tey' development [a proposal for the conversion of agricultural landscape to a 24,000-home new town development between Marks Tey, Coggeshall, and Aldham – the largest of the NEGCs]. The meeting was attended by allying activist groups from other regions of the county, including SERCLE [West Braintree], Hands Off Wivenhoe [East Colchester], and many other individuals from across the county. This show of support to CAUSE illustrates that many of these local activist groups are not merely defending their own patch of landscape, rather they are demonstrating a county-wide concern about the future of the rural landscape.
