New London over-spill in Witham, Essex

Updated: May 14, 2018

A visit to an in-progress suburban development, an extension of the existing town, Witham. This scheme will provide more homes, in the context of the UK 'housing crisis' although add to the existing London over-spill occurring in Essex. As Witham is a commuter town, with rail links forty minutes from London, the new residents of these estates are unlikely to contribute to social or cultural local spheres.

The Arcadian dream or Mass Developer Housing?

Buy before you try?

How is it that residents can purchase a £490k plus home that hasn't even been built yet? - Well because the lack of design is so large that there are merely three designs

to chose from.

'The Aldham'

'The Manningtree'

'The Wivenhoe'

There is a choice of three designs, rather vapidly named after places in Essex in attempt to seem more vernacular rather than computer generated designs that are monotonously cut and pasted across a suburban landscape.

New suburban landscape

Mismanaged landscape

The site adjacent to the new over-spill estate is a largely mismanaged landscape, kept in a perpetual state of decline in order to gain planning permission for housing and appear as a social improvement.
