Visit to Capability Brown's Picturesque Landscape Garden At Wimpole, CambriDgeshiRE

Updated: Jun 9, 2018

Like Burghley Park and Stowe, the Wimpole estate progressed from a formal geometrical [French inspired] design into a landscaped park. The previous design is supposedly by London and Wise. Capability Brown altered the estate into a serpentine park with ribbons of trees and three lakes. Moreover, Repton made some proposals which were not realised. However, later the National Trust re-instated the parterres [formal gardens adjacent to the house]. (The National Trust, 1980) (Gardenvisit.com).
