Adapt + Extend

 

The Sheerness Dockyard Church is a symbol for the current state of the Isle of Sheppey, a derelict ruin steeped in rich history. I propose an innovation school that teaches trade skills and invention, exhibiting the island’s history for inspiration and public viewing. The design strategy for the extension is a simple extrusion of the existing pitched form. Extensions in this direction and form have already occurred in the building’s history.The narrative of the building has the experience of a factory conveyor belt, travelling in a linear fashion from one space progressing to the next.
